Jeremy joined SLC at the end of April 2014 and has been a qualified solicitor since 1990. He has undertaken civil litigation work throughout his career, specialising in property litigation since 2002. Jeremy was a Partner at a large general practice in Chester where he worked for over 20 years before moving to SLC in order to undertake specialist property management work which is what attracted him to SLC.

Jeremy is head of the Litigation Disputes Team and manages a team of 7 lawyers and support staff dealing with defended cases and more complex disputes. Jeremy undertakes more complex fee earning work and supervises and manages the work carried out by the members of his team, as well as dealing with new enquiries and other administrative and management duties. Jeremy’s role is important in ensuring that high standards are maintained, cases are dealt with as efficiently and professionally as possible, and that clients’ interests are best protected.

Kim has always worked within litigation and since 2004 has specialised in Consumer Credit, Asset Finance and Debt Recovery defended litigation. Upon joining SLC in August 2014, Kim has added to her litigation experience in the realm of property litigation. Kim currently advises on residential and commercial property litigation, breach of covenants and recovery of arrears from deceased Estates.

Kim’s general responsibilities includes: advising as to lease provisions, FTT Applications and other Applications received as part of the Court process; reviewing Part-Admissions, Defences and Counterclaims received in responses to Claims issued and advising as to the merits and next steps through to Mediation and final Hearing; advising as to pre-litigation disputes and endeavouring to settle the same at minimal cost to the Client; and investigating deceased Estates, including: establishing contact with Executors and Solicitors for the Estate; corresponding with the Probate Registry and General Registry Office; corresponding with the Treasury Solicitor (where applicable); and, as a final resort, issuing Claims against the Estate.

Whilst working at SLC Solicitors in 2009, Katie graduated from the University of Wolverhampton with a First Class LLB (Hons) Law degree and subsequently went on to complete the Legal Practice Course in 2010.

After working at SLC as a Paralegal and Litigation Assistant from 2009 to 2012, Katie moved to London where she worked as a Paralegal dealing with Litigation and Construction matters.  Most recently, Katie managed a team of paralegals handling pre and post-completion conveyancing transactions.

Having re-joined SLC as a Trainee Solicitor in September 2016, Katie is looking forward to working in a busy team acting on a variety of contentious and non-contentious matters.

Katie enjoys travelling, keeping fit, Muay Thai boxing and the luxury of no longer having to commute on the London Underground every day.

Lauren joins the Litigated Disputes Team from the social housing sector where she gained extensive experience of successfully defending the claimant in complex cases from issuing proceedings to enforcement of judgments. A large number of these cases were against Litigants in Person. Originally setting out for a career in the housing sector Lauren originally qualified as a Housing Practitioner with the Chartered Institute of Housing. Wishing to specialise in Property Law, Lauren continued her qualifications with an LLB (Hons) before becoming a member of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives. Lauren also has extensive experience of successfully collecting arrears of rent and service charges, contributing to her former employers outstanding arrears level of less than 1%.

Carl currently works within the litigation team and handles claims to the Court including the enforcement of judgments against defendants using a variety of different methods.

With an extensive legal history, Carl has been in the legal profession since 2005, initially working within a busy Citizens Advice Bureau on a wide range of legal matters, then working in an in house solicitor’s office for an equally busy High Court Enforcement Office and consequently he has developed a good working knowledge of different aspects of law.

With an Honours Law Degree and also being a Fellow through the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, Carl is well educated in Law and has helped use this knowledge within this firm since May 2014.

Carl enjoys his line of work and likes obtaining payments for our clients while also keeping a high standard of professionalism towards defendants.

Gareth graduated from Aberystwyth University with BA Honours in Law with Management and Business in June 2015 before joining SLC Solicitors in November.

Gareth has moved from Disputer and Assistant Account Manager roles to now assisting our senior Solicitor Charlotte Collins with commercial recovery matters. He finds the work varied and interesting placing great emphasis on meeting the client’s needs to deliver the desired outcome.

Gareth continually strives to improve whilst furthering his knowledge and experience in this field.

Outside of SLC, Gareth enjoys managing and running his local adult football team

Deirdre Mavin is the Litigation Disputes Secretary for the Litigation Disputes Team whose role is to help the team with various secretarial and administration duties which help facilitate the smooth running of the department.

Deirdre has been a Legal Secretary for over 25 years and has been working for SLC for the past 4 ½ years.

Her qualifications include City & Guilds HND in Business Studies along with RSA qualifications up to stage 3.
